Choosing your teacher training program

The Polestar curriculum, designed by physical therapist and Orthopedic Certified Specialist Brent Anderson, is based on a scientific foundation of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics and motor control, and integrates scientific research findings in the areas of orthopedics, sports medicine and movement science.

Our teaching method is interactive, helping you assess the whole person - physically, psychologically, emotionally and spiritually. The educational approach incorporates:
  • discussion forum
  • labs (doing, observing, teaching)
  • problem solving (utilizing case studies and deductive reasoning)
  • hands-on teaching (group and individuals)
  • assessment skills
  • principles of neuro-linguistics (modeling, sequencing and structuring information, and maintaining appropriate learning states)
Polestar's flexible design allows you to attend courses on weekends, minimizing time away from home and work. Time between courses to study, observe and practice allows you to schedule courses based on mastery of the material and the amount of time and energy you can devote to your training. You can earn Polestar Certifications in Rehabilitation, Studio and Mat.

PF
The first component of all Polestar Series is a two-day Principals of Fitness/Movement module, "PF". For participants undertaking more than one series, it is only required to complete PF once.

Studio/Rehabilitation Series

The Comprehensive Series consists of 7 two-day course modules that teach in-depth practical and theoretical skills needed to become a proficient Pilates Practitioner. Students become familiar with Pilates-evolved exercises, assessment techniques, movement sequences and the application of Polestar Principles on the Reformer, Trapeze, Chair, Ladder Barrel, Spine Corrector, Mat and small props. The course comprises over 140 exercises and their modifications for the low to moderate risk client. You acquire the ability to conduct Polestar Fitness Screenings and improve critical reasoning skills. A series of case studies provide a solid base to assess and design custom exercise sequences and treatment plans for diverse populations. Students also learn advanced tactile skills, communicative proficiency and creative imagery for clear cueing. Studio and Rehabilitation series are often taught together, with occasional breakout sessions to reflect the different emphasis.

Mat Series

The Polestar Mat Series consists of 4 two-day course modules and is designed for personal trainers and group exercise instructors. It is also appropriate for instructors of movement arts such as dance, yoga, and Tai Chi, as well as practitioners of somatic movement such as Feldenkrais and Alexander Techniques. The series enable fitness professionals to incorporate Pilates-evolved mat exercises into their training programs. Program design and exercise sequencing are addressed for group formats and one-on-one training. Theory and practice of Polestar principles and instruction techniques are applied to each exercise. Verbal, tactile and imagery cueing practices are addressed to facilitate motor learning. The last weekend addresses modifications and challenges to the Pilates repertoire through the use of small props and sports-specific workouts.
